The Awards for 2015

Nearly four months of diligent listening and the results are in from a competition that began in November 2014 with the careful selection of our very best. It really has taken this long to actually get through every single album. For me, this competition is all about the new music and getting fifteen handcrafted albums of the music tastes from my mates is one of the best ways to discover fresh stuff. I personally battled casting my votes as I had so much great stuff to play, my decisions changed as often as the tracks did. Even so, we have to have a winner as this is a contest after all barring the lack of thought on what the prize should be other than bragging rights. Maybe a silly hat?

So here they are, the awards as voted by us:

Best Album:

front
Devon – Aminal Message, Really

Devon cleaned up this year with seven votes. He was closely followed by Lex and Kati tied for second with six each. Willdog and Sarah fought over third garnering five a piece with smatterings of popularity across the rest, some with higher numbers of song votes than the pack leader. Congrats Devon, you are now officially the one to beat with best album overall.

Best Songs

‘Amadou et Mariam feat. Manu Chao – Sénégal fast food’

Damien Jurado - Silver Timothy

‘Damien and Jurado – Silver Timothy’

pub_soko

‘Soko – I’ll Kill Her’

Three songs tied for song of the year with 6 votes each

Best Album Art

front Devon – Aminal Message, Really
FrontAngelica – Party for One

Dogs on acid and dancing girls came out tops as Devon and Angelica share the category for Best Album Art. I would have thought Willdogs nutsack to have put up more of a fight.

Individual Awards

At the end of the day, everyone has their own tastes. Some seemingly more similar than others. I had about five or six favourites but the one I went with in the end won out for having consistently great stuff, squatted dominantly across my favourite genres, and was my most played album by a margin.

24.Album Cover Son of the Jimmy Neu

It is clear that the undisputed best album was ‘Aminal Message, Really’. It was the most favourited album, with more votes than any other, a decent stack of song favourites and some great album art to boot. Congratulations again to Devon, if you see him today crack the man a beer and pour it over his head.

This was our first official voting and there were a few clear kinks to iron out for next time to make it a touch less laborious. I hope everyone enjoyed the music as much as I did, and I hope to see your next installment in my playlist soon! Comment below this post if you have any suggestions and feedback on the voting process for the future, or whether we should do the votes again next time.

Now go have a listen to our Best of Jimmy Mix 2015 album and pour yourself a drink while we ride out last embers of the weekend.

Til next time!

      • Just need to get these other fools to follow and it’s a win. Are you getting notifications via email? Or are you using the WordPress app?

      • Getting e-mail notifications. Works nicely, comes into my Social category on gmail. Yeah, we need other peeps involved here rather than on the FB group. I did tell them to sign up to blog notifications during the awards ceremony, but for forgetful peeps and scattered peeps probs a reminder on the FB group, with a link to it is possibly a good idea.
