So, I’m rooted in the 60’s .. those musically loamy days of vinyl, 8 track tapes and cassettes. The LP record was a thing of wonder. Vocals, instruments and drumbeat carved in grooves and read with a needle. (Nick can explain the actual process to me later) .

The hiss and dirt, scratch and groan added to the intimacy of artist- created lyrics and sound.

Poignant and deeply authentic – Especially now that we can all spoon up a song from a digital bowl of zeros and ones – a binary reduction of everything ever written and sung .

This little selection is my response to that existential creative crisis – and a tip of the hat to the experiment, humour, irony and protest from back then.

Unapologetically nostalgic.
Unmistakably human.

  1. This mix did exactly as what was intended for me, or at least I think so. The nostalgic journey of rhythms and lyrics that backtracked much of my childhood, it was a trip back to when songwriting was an expression of an inward journey for their creators. Done with less performative motivations, or at least it feels. The opening track describes this in a wonderfully direct way, and then each track from there is a beautiful memory lane. ELO has, and will always be a personal favourite. Thank you for bringing me back to them Taryn. It’s great to have you part of the JM community with this sharing.
