Well ladies and gentle mixers, we’ve done it!
We’ve managed to, somehow, between busy lives, schedules, careers, families, algorithms, AI curated playlists and even community over continents. We’ve done it to revive this little, magic music sharing extravaganza, and have reached one of the more momentus events of the process … release day!
It’s been a wildly encouraging turnout, after a 5 year hiatus, with an unprecedented 26 playlists expected (with some stragglers still to come in, ahem, Lex & Lyndsay). We’ve had, amazingly, albums submitted from 5 different continents! In an impressive show of deadline dedication, Teagan finds herself in Antarctica atm, and managed to get her mix in from there. There is now over 14 hours of carefully curated music, and some beautifully creative, heartfelt descriptions and sharings to enjoy over a sizzling summer. Or to raise spirits through the depths of winter, if you’re North of the equator.
A big shout out HAS to go to our resident wizard, Nick James, who pulled this brand new website together, with some fresh, new systems and innovations baked into it. One that we’d love to highlight, is the fact that you can now rate your albums as you listen. We want people to be able to enjoy each mix, and mark their feelings about it as they go. Maybe even comment on the page of each mix, so the curator can see ’em, and enjoy a bit of feedback through the listening months. We hope to, then, use the live ratings data, alongside some specific nomination opportunities, to decide our winners and accolades when award season comes. We imagine in about 3 or 4 months from now.
So there it is Jimmy Mixers, go ahead and Fly My Pretties (another great past JM discovery), enjoy listening season. May we all listen with intrigue and purpose, as fellow Mixer Sara once said; “feeling as though we’re all hanging out with our mates”, and be free to share away with others who may enjoy it all too.
