Get up, you bastard, the sun is shining. The first 12 songs are recommended on an empty stomach, with your morning coffee, and have been found to increase your chances of having a good day by up to 84%. I’ve been tweaking this bit of the playlist since August, and I think it makes sense, in a funky sunny “field of flowers shot on a film handicam” kind of way. But I’m not going to lie, 90 minutes? It’s a LOT of songs. So then we spiral wildly into the abyss. There’s a strong predilection towards the 70s, and some cheesy synthy goodness, and some delicious harmonies, and the latest from Sylvan Esso. For the sake of clarity, our descent into chaos is marked, as is so often the case, by gypsy punk. You could never call it cohesive, but I believe it is still a Vibe. Skip to your heart’s content, but please do not leave without hearing the jazzy “Single Ladies” cover. I had one rule this year: no sad songs.
